Blue Ridge Parkway/Lee Chapel and Museum

So we took the scenic route along the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of our journey to Natural Bridge. The weather was hot and the sky a bit overcast. With the steam hanging in the trees, the views weren’t as spectacular as they could be but it was a gorgeous drive nonetheless. We made a quick stop off in Lexington to visit the Lee Chapel and Museum at Washington and Lee University – a ‘gem’ according to AAA. I have to agree. The downtown area of Lexington itself is very picturesque and the grounds of Washington and Lee are just beautiful. Lee Chapel and Museum offers a wonderful history of Lee’s life and work as a soldier and president at the University. The chapel itself is simple and serene and below is a museum that holds many artifacts. Lee and most members of his family are buried beneath the chapel. Even his horse Traveller is buried next to the chapel.
